All Accredited AGPT Training Practices are entitled to a Training Practice Subsidy and Teaching Allowances.
There is currently no mandated rate and therefore the rate settled upon by your RTO within the Training Practice
Agreement is discretionary.
The Training Practice Subsidy is paid to the practice to reimburse you for the cost of educational release for GPT1 and GPT2 Registrars. There is often not a Training Practice Subsidy for GPT3 and GPT4 because registrars are generally not required to engage in educational release activities with their RTO at this stage of their training.
Training Practice Subsidy rates vary between RTOs but you can generally expect the following rates:
|Term||High/Week Subsidy||Low/Week Subsidy|
Teaching allowances vary between RTOs and these payments partially reimburse GP supervisors for lost income while they are providing dedicated teaching to their registrar.
Generally teaching allowances are paid for mandatory teaching time only (i.e. the time stipulated in your Training Practice Agreement and normally only relates to GPT1 and GPT2 as follows:
teaching hours (FTE)
A growing number of RTOs pay Training Practice Subsidies and Teaching Allowances through recipient generated tax invoice. This means upon submission by your practice of the required training records, your RTO will raise an invoice on your behalf and pay the invoice into your pre-arranged nominated training practice bank account.
Note: RTOs do not normally pay teaching allowances directly to individual supervisors.
The Department of Health, Colleges, RTOs, GPSA ,GPRA, AMA, RDAA reviewed practice subsidies and teaching allowances with a view to making these nationally consistent in 2023.
The resulting payment schedule for training practices from Term 1 in 2023 will be as follows:
